"Enter," She said, without looking up. She already knew who it was. She had been tracking his location since he beamed on board knowing that he would eventually make his way to her Ready Room door. The presence of another powerful telepath on the ship would not go without her noticing."Help yourself to the replicator and then have a seat," She said, not looking up as the door closed behind her visitor. She motioned first toward the replicator then to one of the seats in front of her desk. "I'll be with you in a moment Dr. Mias." Riven swept through the door at her summons with his effervescent smile firmly and naturally in place, it was hard to keep such a bubbly personality as he was gifted with down for long. The meeting with Ana had been a complete and unadulterated success with each of them being a listening and compassionate ear for the other. He had noted David Adams working on the bridge and stopped for a brief hello and a friendly slap on the other man's shoulder, his empathy for the remaining crew evident to anyone with half an eye and his outrageous garb with its musical accompaniment an eye catcher as always. This meeting with Captain Straton had been a foregone conclusion from the beginning, like karma, a terran term he had become familiar with. There were a number of strong telepaths on board but if such talents could be likened to a sun in the sea of stars then hers had shined the brightest among them. Visualizing such talent was a forte of his which had been honed over a lifetime just as he used a variation of visualization when working with those who needed his healing services. "Of course Captain, thank you. Don't hurry on my account." At her invitation he crossed to the replicator and ordered a complete serving of the tea Ana had introduced him to along with its delectable Japanese cherry blossom honey while she concluded her reports then walked the steaming mug to the desk where he set it down gingerly, took a seat then retrieved the mug. He was taking a sip of the hot beverage when she looked up. She finished the report she'd been working on and finally looked up at her visitor. "So I take it you and Lt. Ripley had a nice conversation?" "Yes very," His eyes glinted with amusement as he returned the mug to the desk. "A very cathartic and enlightening experience." He was keenly aware she was heavily shielded. ~A very private person among our people it would seem.~ His own mental shields were sufficient to keep his thoughts to himself and no more, this allowed his empathic ability free rein. In case of an attack which was not a problem on the ship in such situations of course it could be heavily fortified quickly which would be an instinctive adjustment. "Since I've seen your first officer and my own superior I thought it a good idea to drop by." The mischief in his eyes deepened. "I believe it is standard protocol of course is it not Captain?" "Indeed it is...Doctor," She said, intentionally using his title and not his name. Her face remaining intently serious. "You can call me Captain or, if you prefer, Captain Straton. We need to lay down so ground rules for your visit. My ship, my rules. Don't you agree?" "As you wish Captain." The twinkle of his eyes spoke eloquently that his spirits had not been dampened a bit by the call down. "I understand perfectly and shall adhere to your 'rules' while on duty." That left a bit open to interpretation of course to an enterprising individual. "What you do off duty is your own business," Eva replied, not missing his implications. "While your on duty, however, I run a tight ship and I expect you to respect that. Due to your unique relationship with Starfleet, I will overlook your attire provided it doesn't negatively impact the performance of the crew. I also expect to be kept appraised of Lt. Trinin's progress. I don't expect you to do anything that would breach doctor patient confidentiality, but I want to know when he will be ready to return to duty. I've worked with a Mind Healer before. We had one on the Boudicca, Domini Alizara, so I am familiar with working with followers of the goddess." She leaned back in her chair and took a sip of her own iced, spiced tea regarding him silently for a moment. "Any problems with this?" "I don't foresee one," He dead-panned. "I am going to make sure my belongings are properly stowed then look up our friend Baylon, according to the reports I received he requires immediate attention. I will of course be doing an evaluation from my perspective before beginning any treatment and will keep you up to date as we go along. Since you have worked with mind healers before you are of course aware of our methods." The twinkle returned to his eyes. "While my attire as you call it is not regulation uniform as I am aware I assure you it is integral to both my talents and the way I go about doing my business as well as fitting my tastes. I don't believe you will have to worry though about it causing a lackadaisical attitude among the crew as very few seem to share my opinion on clothing." "It's more the attitude I'm concerned with than others mimicking your taste in clothing," Eva replied, "People getting the very wrong idea that since I am allowing you to dress like that." She gestured at his attire. "That they can dress however they wish as well, that is not something I will tolerate. As you say, your attire is integral to the performance of your duties on this ship so I won't impede that. I'm sure you've felt the crew's mood as well as I have, but I must also maintain discipline. I don't see any reason why you and Lt. Ripley can't help the crew through their emotional turmoil while at the same time maintaining the same level of discipline and professionalism." "Perhaps you misunderstand because of my outgoing personality Captain Straton," Riven enunciated clearly after taking another sip of the sublime tea. "But I maintain a high degree of professionalism despite what you may think, you will have no problems from me and since you brought up the subject perhaps you can answer a question I have..." "It appears the counseling department on the ship has been underutilized. I know you can't speak for your former captain however do you have any thoughts on why the advice of the Senior Counselor has not been properly considered on issues of ship's business? I assure you it would be highly profitable in a number of ways, not only in helping the current issue which is the mental health and well being of the crew and lightening the mood on the ship. The counseling department is a highly valuable tool for the command line in formulating policy and tactics in first contact situations and in dealing with highly volatile situations. Captain Sash and yourself however have not availed yourselves of this tool and the crew has been suffering as a result. And make no mistake, this is not an accusation on my part but experienced, informed and professional advice." "Starfleet made this department available for your use and laid out clear guidelines so that you would have an informed, objective and confidential individual to consult with in times of need. I would suggest in the future you give the matter due consideration if for no other reason than to make sure you have covered all available avenues. Your commanders expect that from you and so should the people you lead." Eva's eyes narrowed dangerously. "I think you need to get your facts straight mister," She replied her voice cold. "While I will not presume to speak for Captain Sash, I have sought the advise of Lt. Ripley on several occasions. That doesn't mean I have always followed it, her input was sought and duly considered just as I would any of my other senior officers. Case in point, during our mission with the Waagoshin on several occasions I asked her professional opinion on the psychological make up of the Waagoshin and her recommendations on how to proceed. I also gave her my empathic impressions of them so she would have them to work with in making up a psychological profile. So you are wrong when you say that I have not availed myself of this 'highly valuable tool' for formulating policy or tactics in first contacts situations. I did indeed, and I will in the future." "As for our current dilemma with the low morale, the Chief Counselor is my 'Man on Point' if you would on the matter, and I would be a fool to put any one else in charge of it. I have been reading her daily reports on the matter and it is due to her recommendations that you are even on this ship in the first place. You and I both know that Lt. Trinin is a symptom of a larger problem, that being that this crew is still suffering from the loss of Captain Sash. I can feel it and so can you. I'm sure Lt. Ripley informed you as much in your little chat. I consider the Counseling department just as important as Engineering, Science, Medical, or any other department on this ship. So, I can't say that I agree with your appraisal that the Counseling department on this ship is being under utilized. It *might* have been, but as I said I will not presume to speak for Captain Sash." Riven didn't miss the icy tone of her voice of course. ~Such thinly suppressed hostility.~ His voice was calm and even and the quirk of a smile was at the corners of his lips as he replied. "I read the reports on my way here and it was her recommendation that extreme caution be exercised in dealing with the Waagoshin, it is unfortunate that Sash chose to press on despite those recommendations with such a horrendous loss of life however what's done is done." He leaned forward a bit and regarded her. "Your own aggressive tone toward your crew is not helping matters, while I would not endorse allowing them to run rampant I would counsel you to ease up on them a bit, they are under tremendous stress as it is without adding to their burden." He met her eyes firmly. "You are free to disregard this of course but it will only make my job here harder if you do and in my professional opinion you should consider dropping by the office of Ana or myself when you have time to unload some of that anger you carry around. Again that is my professional opinion and I recommend you heed it." He then sat back and considered her reaction. Eva snorted in disbelief. "First you accuse me of under using the Counseling department. An accusation that I completely disagree with by the way. Now you think I have anger issues as well? I do not feel that I am being aggressive to you or my crew, quite the contrary actually where my crew is concerned. I am walking a very fine line trying to maintain discipline while at the same time giving them the room they need to recover from the ordeal they have gone through. Every day I lower my shields and I share their pain, so I have already been easing up on them. While I will admit I found your assumptions that I am under using the counseling department insulting as well as the assumption that I do not care for the well being of my crew. I might be a hard task master, I am not without compassion." She took another sip of her tea as she reclined in her chair her posture relaxed. "I was a marine for close to twenty years, so I'm use to being a marine and leading marines. While I know I am not a marine any longer, old habits die hard. As for your assumptions of aggression, if I was being aggressive you'd be dead already." She gave a small smile taking another sip of her tea. "Your recommendations are noted. I've already eased up on the crew as I've already stated. I will discuss the matter further with Lt Haynes at a later time. Anything else?" He shook his head as he stood to his feet and gave her a smile. "Nothing else Captain, I'm sorry if it seemed as though I were making accusations but as I said I was merely giving informed advice. I hope we will have a mutually beneficial relationship while I'm here and you can be certain I will keep you informed of developments." He carried the cup to the replicator and disposed of it, then turned to her before he left the room. "I enjoyed our meeting and hope there is no acrimony." "We've had a difference of opinion Doctor," Eva stated, taking another sip of her drink, "I promise not to hold it against you." He nodded his head in complete agreement. "Thank you Captain and good day." Then made his way to the door and stepped through. Tapping the combadge in his pocket he asked. "Computer state location on Lt. Baylon Trinin." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Counseling Department - COUNS Ensign Anamitra Ripley - 1512) There was a pause in Arysha then, A sort of self reflection that all counselors hoped that the people that they were helping underwent. There were so many ways to deal with a potential issue that it could be tricky to find the right one. they were even more exasperating when the person you were helping also suffered from a serious communications barrier at the same time. The engineer shared her time coming aboard the Hades, detailing her conversation with the late Captain and expressed her own joy to have accepted her position, one that she had always hoped for but had never before been given the chance to fill. It had been a momentous and happy day for her, and it was ironically enough the impetus for the deep sorrow and guilt that Arysha was now feeling at the very depths of her soul. {{L-Music trust-me finish. I miss important-top piece. Want impress-superb-be - because here not-should. Lucky me.}} Tethlin signed. "I can completely understand what you mean. I never had acceptance or love from my parents, and it was very important to me to have someone have faith and confidence in my abilities. It has a way of making you work harder to not let anyone down. But sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we do." Ana stated, trying to draw a similar connection between herself and the engineer. {{Parents love me, why say-that?}} Arysha suddenly replied, as if Ana had said something absolutely abysmal. "I was merely sharing my own experiences, and how I can understand how one person can feel obligated to another when that person grants us something that we desperately need. In my case it was confidence in my abilities. In yours it was acceptance. I was in no way implying that you were not loved by your parents." (reply Arysha iyw) "Captain Sash accepted you for who you are and what you could do. he looked past your faults, flaws and limitations where others only saw obstacles, he saw opportunities. For me, It was Doctor Stephen Grossman, who saw potential in my observational skills. He taught me a great deal and convinced me that I'd be better suited for the Counseling department rather than the Medical Department." "The point I am trying to make here is that when someone else fills such a basic need for acceptance or guidance or whatever our individual need, that we become connected to them. We work very hard to impress them, to maintain a level of expectation that they set for us. And when they are gone, or when they are no longer available to us, it hurts. And it hurts just as badly when their gone as it felt good when we were pleasing them, but doing well." "It's a natural way to feel. You just have to realize that all of the tings you accomplished and all the work that you've done, you did on your own. Those people just helped you direct your efforts." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Counseling Department - Engineer Ensign (jg) Arysha Tethlin -1515) Arysha paid attention to Ana, she made little movements that indicated her understanding and that she was still following. Her right hand occasionally bobbed up and down in a yes motion - typical of Deaf language, it seemed like a yes of dismissal, but was actually an indication of 'yes, go on, I`m listening'. When the counsellor finished what she was saying, Arysha took a moment to reply - having calmed herself enough to once again think clearly. {{Ok, myself actions my-own, accept-that. But suppose Sash not bring-me Ship-H. Actions happen? Not possible.}} (reply Ana) Arysha let the more quiet tears roll down her cheeks unabated, only wiping her eyes if they became blurred. She let herself state several things that were present in her mind. {{Miss Sash. Miss friends from Inside-War gone.Want sign-friends. Hate lonely feeling. Worry, action continue-forward maybe-not}} ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate 2413.10.23 (USS Hades, Arboretum - CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 1940) "Is it just me or are you becoming more lovely by the day? I have no doubt he was extremely proud of what you have accomplished in starfleet not to mention how resilient and talented you are." Jack's breath tickled her head as he spoke, a sensation Lo'ren was growing more and more fond of. She laughed at the compliment, "I don't know, maybe you should get your eyes checked?" She teased him lightly before she added, "I know, it still stings though - I've lost both my parents within three years of each other," She pursed her lips, guessing at what the scientist would say, "I know that technically it's 8 years since my mother's death, but to me I'm still 47 and it's only been three years and now both have passed away without me anywhere near home." (reply Jack) Banishing the sadness for a while she smiled up at him. "But that's something I'll work out... with some help. Right now I'm more interested in YOUR news." Lo'ren playfully shoved a finger into Jack's chest, trusting that he understood her meaning loud and clear. "What brought on that announcement?" (reply Jack) She nodded, thinking of how quickly she had confided in the flamboyant Betazoid in her own right. "Riven..." Lo'ren scrunched her face slightly as she searched for words, "is Riven." She put up her hands in mock surrender -at a loss for words. (reply Jack) She sat down on the blanket, pulling Jack's hand so he would follow suit. Peeking into the basket she saw an array of food that - as usual looked exotic and extrememly tasty. "Did I mention that you look more handsome everyday? Maybe I should get my eyes checked." Lo'ren shot off a playful grin as she pulled out what looked to be some sort of barbequed meat. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Arboretum - FO/CSO Jericho Haynes- 1945) She laughed at the compliment, "I don't know, maybe you should get your eyes checked?" She smiled then added, "I know, it still stings though - I've lost both my parents within three years of each other," She pursed her lips, before continuing, "I know that technically it's 8 years since my mother's death, but to me I'm still 47 and it's only been three years and now both have passed away without me anywhere near home." He shook his head. "I was thinking the same thing, for us it's been such a short time, it's strange how time has left us behind." "But that's something I'll work out... with some help. Right now I'm more interested in YOUR news." Lo'ren playfully poked him with a finger. "What brought on that announcement?" "About apologizing to the counselor for my outrageous behavior?" he shook his head. "I don't know, well yes I guess I do. It goes back to what Dr... I mean Riven told me. I really shouldn't let one idiot color my perception of the profession, that's what he really seemed to be telling me and... well I've been considering it for some time now." He shrugged his shoulders. She nodded against his shoulder. "Riven...is Riven." She stepped back from him and raised her hands, palms up as if running out of words to describe the Betazoid mind healer who had just come aboard. He laughed, "Yes he is that. A strange one but very compelling in many ways. I'm considering asking him if he can help me with the problem I've been having." He got a far away look in his face. "Captain Straton asked me why I hadn't gone to Betazed before to see if I could get help and her and Harry offered to work with me. But if finding a Betazoid to help would be good wouldn't a mind healer be better? I mean... What if what I have been experiencing is the result of the full bonding I had with Shilae? And she trained on Betazed after all... if anyone could help me then someone who made mind healing a profession would be the perfect one to go to don't you think?" He looked down to see her opening up the picnic basket he had brought. "Did I mention that you look more handsome every day? Maybe I should get my eyes checked." She gave him a teasing grin and pulled out a barbacued chicken thigh. "Nah, you're just prejudiced." he teased back as he sat down beside her. He pulled out napkins, plates, silverwear and covered bowls of potato salad and barbacued beans then popped them open after which he pulled out the full bowl of chicken, covered in a tangy sauce. As she began serving he grabbed the corkscrew and glasses then opened the bottle of wine. The red would be a perfect complement to the sauce, opening up whole new dimensions of flavor which is why he had picked the vintage. After testing it he poured them full glasses and laid back on the blanket. "To us and a long future together." He toasted and held out his glass for a touch. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Arboretum - CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 1946) "To us and a long future together." He toasted and held out his glass for a touch. The words jolted through her more than anything ever had - she was nearly laid out flat by the possibilities and implications of the idea. Lo'ren recovered enough however to take up her own glass and touch the delicate rim to Jack's outstretched glass. She sipped the wine while she continued to savour the words in her mind. After a moment she lowered the glass, placing in on the checked blanket -concentrating very hard placing it very specifically; exactly atop one of the red squares, the edges of the stem base equally spaced over top the white contrast squares. She could feel his emotions, simple pleasure at the evening, the distinct warmth that was the mutual love that flowed back and forth between them and the light bounce that indicated when he was playful and teasing. Even with her lips curled into a smile, her voice souded raspy as she replied to his words. "I hope you're not teasing, Jack." She looked into his eyes, only half-teasing, the other half waiting for a response that would melt her heart - in a good way. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2413.10.24 (USS Hades-Personal Quarters- CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere-1730) Angeni stood in the bathroom, looking in her mirror. She gazed at her reflection, shaking her head slowly. Seeing Riven Mias stirred up some interesting feelings in her. Their last meeting was less than favorable, he had her sent home, but at the same time, she couldn't help to feel the...romantic...urges that she had felt the last time she saw him. She walked out of the bathroom, toweling her hair dry when she heard a knock at the door. It was a fervent knocking. "Who is it?" "It's Nurse Able! You have to come quick...Haywood's hurt...bad!" Angeni didn't skip a beat. She ran straight into the hallway, looking at Nurse Able. "What happened?" Nurse Able started to speak, "He fell...in his room. CSF test is positive, He's completely unresponsive...basically gets a three for showing up. Chase and Hawkeye are stabilizing and prepping now." Angeni nodded, listening intently. She was getting strange looks from people passing by, and Nurse Able was looking every where else but at her. Angeni shrugged and started to pat her chest, feeling for her comm badge, but all she felt was...flesh. She stood up proudly, smiling at those passing. "Well. Thank you Nurse Able. I'm going to get dressed now, and I will meet you in sickbay." She smiled and waved, then she walked back into her room. The only thing on her that wasn't bright red with complete embarrassment was...unmentionable. She skipped on the uniform and went straight to scrubs. ~Screw Straton. I'm tired of constantly changing in and out of my uniform in sickbay. I'm going for surgery, and that's it. If she wants to get a bug up her ass about it, she can take it up with me...again.~ Angeni put her comm badge on and made her way to sickbay. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades-Sickbay-Dr. Chase O'Neil-1734) "What happened do we know?" Chase looked up and gasped at Hawkeye. He had almost completely forgotten that he had summoned him down. He picked up a sterilizer, but opted to go to the sink behind him for a good old fashioned scrub-in. "No clue. We just found him lying in his quarters. He was lying on his back, his neck slightly contorted. His head was resting against the frame of his bed, and he was tangled up in a ladder. Oh, there was a broken light bulb next to him. Either an assailant came in, beat him with the ladder, then broke a light bulb, or Haywood was changing it, had a minor gravity attack, and here ya go. Poor kid..." "Ok people lets go to work. Chase go set up in OR 1, Im gonna need a hand with an exploratory. From the looks of it hes got some increased ICP as well. I'm thinking a couple of burr holes to at least release some of that pressure. A second bag wouldnt hurt him either." Chase smiled at Hawkeye, shaking his head. "Good job, but slow down slightly. I'm not sure a second bag is needed at the moment, but if you put it in slow with a mix of Medrol, that may work better." Chase continued to hook Haywood up to the various machines, making sure that every vital sign or movement was caught by the computer. "John get over here. Put a second large bore IV in place and run a liter of half normal saline with D5W at a wide rate. Make sure his pressure doesnt get too high, but I need that line in on the off chance we half to get more meds into him. Also run a full panel on him, skull chest and pelvic series. I want to make sure we dont have any serious complications from the flail segment I felt during assessment. Run a CBC while your at it, just in case". Chase grimmaced slightly, his back to Hawkeye. Ang was not going to enjoy having another Trauma hotshot around, and she'd make it known, loud and clear. While he would never jeopardize patient care waiting for Ms. Trommashere to make an appearance, part of him wished Hawkeye would've forgotten something so that Ang had the opportunity to do something pre-op. He looked towards the closed doors of the bay and began praying loudly in his head that Ang would show up, and soon. "What do you think?" Hawk asked Chase. " It looks to me like he's got the ICP and mabye some more internal spinal damage. I just dont think were gonna have a clear picture untill we get inside and look around" Chase nodded. "I'd say from the vitals and blown pupil that that's exactly what we have. If he was standing on the ladder, then by all means we'd probably have some sort of neck problem, but it shouldn't be too major." He started to say something about waiting for Ang, but he stopped. If she couldn't be on time for the show, then she had no right to be a part of it. Just then, he saw her breeze through the door and he sighed audibly. He saw her work into her office, do something on the computer, then she came right into the room. "Greetings Ms. Daisy!" Angeni started getting prepared and she called out over her shoulder for Chase to show Hawk her "baby" : The Drill. He walked to one of the cabinets and pulled out a black case, and he set it on a Mayo stand, beconing for Hawk to come over. "This is probably the Holy Grail for her. It's a bone drill specifically made for neuro procedures. It has some long, convoluted name, but Ang affectionately calls it the DeWalt 4000." He pulled out the drill, reving the motor several times. The drill hummed with precision, and he heard Angeni giggle like a school girl over his shoulder. "See what I mean?" Chase smile, "It uses an oscillating laser to drill into the skull, leaving no bone residue to fly around. Each laser tip is color coded. The blue one is the one we're using today, it's strictly for burr holes. The diameter of the beam is the exact diameter that we need for the holes. Madomosielle over there will be finishing off with the expansion of the foramen magnum using the ruby tip. It's a very thin beam that is used to cut away portions and they can be saved for later use." (Reply Hawkeye) "If you play your cards right, she might get a monogrammed one for you for Christmas." He nudged Hawkeye playfully. He heard Angeni speaking, and he turned around quickly. "We have our work cut out for us, gentlemen. Does anyone have any questions?" "I'm good, Ang. Hawk, you good?" (Reply Hawkeye) Chase nodded. "I call repairing fractures. I want to try out the bigger bone regenerator Star Fleet sent over. Hawk, you're a chest man...no offense those of a feminine nature...I think I may have felt crepitus over the ribs, so you are more than welcome to take your laser scalpel and cut away there. I think Ang has dibs on the head." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Personal Quarters, SO, Ensign T'Sol, 1738) =^=I'm on my way, can you give me any information before I arrive?=^= T'Vof's voice sounded over the commbadge with a sense of urgency. "There isn't much that I should convey to you over an open channel sir. It should suffice to let you know that as of 1735 hours this stardate, I have sealed Ensign Haywood's quarters as a potential crime scene pending further investigation." =^=Understood, I'll be there directly.=^= ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Personal Quarters, SO, Ensign T'Sol, 1743) The wait wasn't very long, in fact it was just long enough to allow T'Sol's Vulcan mind a few needed moment to decide exactly how and what she should convey to the new Chief of security when she arrived. For her part in the matter, T'Vof wasted no time in getting to the heart of the issue. When she arrived, the first word from her mouth was "Report." "As I mentioned to you over the commbadge, I have sealed these quarters pending an investigation. had just reported in to the Armory to do some work on my squad duty rotations when I noticed a low-priority Security tell indicating that Ensign Haywood had not reported for his normal assigned duty shift. Ensign Baranovichi was manning the station and had allowed it to go unreported for at least fifteen minutes prior to my discovery. I grabbed another security officer, Ensign Travers, and proceeded immediately here as the computer had verified that this was Haywood's current location." "When I arrived, Doctor O'Neil was here and calling for a security override because he believed that there was a medical emergency inside. Considering the data, we overrode the door and entered the quarters." "Ensign Haywood was found in his bed chamber, seriously injured, from an apparent fall. He was beamed to Sickbay. There is a slight possibility that the scene was staged and that there could have been a distinct attempt upon his life. Such things have happened aboard ship before. I thought it best to seal the compartment until an investigation could be conducted. I have also ordered Ensign Baranovichi arrested for negligence of duty, and failure to comply to security protocols. Of course if Ensign Haywood should die from injuries sustained, Baranovichi would become complicit in Involuntary Murder through Negligence of Duty." "I want James up here, under guard." T'Vof stated. "Do you wish then to drop the charges against him?" T'Sol asked with a slightly raised left eyebrow. "I trust your judgment, T'Sol. I will not rescind thatorder, but Mister Baranovichi will be inspecting Doctor Parker's quarters. He is to be treated as a working prisoner. He is to do the entire investigation alone, without aid, while under guard. Perhaps then he will understand what he is responsible for." "I see. You wish to teach him an abject lesson." T'Sol stated despite the fact that it was obvious. The security Chief tapped her commbadge and spoke, "T'Vof to Travers." =^=Travers here.=^= "Please escort Mister Baranovichi up here to the Doctor's quarters." =^=Yes, Ma'am.=^= "I will see to it your orders are carried out." T'Sol replied. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Corridor outside Personal Quarters - CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'renT'Vof - 1744) Lo'ren nodded, pleased that T'Sol was as capable as the reports indicated."Thank you Ensign, I trust that you will ensure that the investigation is thourough. If you need me further I will be in conversation with the Medical and Counselling departments." (reply T'Sol iyw) With that, Lo'ren about faced once more and marched down the hallway, feeling slightly at a loss. She was dealing with a department that - for lack of a better term - was hurting. She'd given leeway for as much as she dared, and now... ~And now it's gone too far, sorry Haywood.~ As she walked, Lo'ren tapped her commbadge again, "Ensign T'Vof to Sickbay." (reply any in Sickbay) "What's Mister Parker's condition? I've got an investigation pending and some of the outcome will be affected by your findings." (reply Sickbay) Lo'ren nodded to herself, "Thanks, I'll check in again in a while." Lo'ren double tapped her combadge, closing and opening a new channel, "EnsignT'Vof to Counsellor Ripley." (reply Ana) Lo'ren sighed slightly, "I need your professional opinion and perhaps a bit of guidance, Ana. Do you have a moment?" (reply Ana) "I'll be down shortly. All I want to say over the comms is that you'd better pull your records for about half the security department." Lo'ren shook her head, feeling sad and angry and confused and a host of other feelings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Sickbay - CMO Angeni O. Windsong-Trommashere - 1745) Angeni walked into Sickbay, going straight back to the OR area. She snapped her fingers and she hauled rear back to her office. From the looks of it, Chase and Hawkeye were more than able to handle it, and from the sounds of their conversation, Haywood was in good hands, She ducked into her office, pulling up her computer. She quickly tapped out a message to Riven. Riven, Is 2030 a good time for dinner? You and me, Ten Forward, just like old times. Can't wait to see you. Let me know. I'm going to be in surgery for a while, one of our doctors got injured. Drop me a line, thanks. ~Angeni~ Angeni sent the message off, and she grabbed a face mask and a pair of booties from her scrub drawer. Removing her tribal bracelets, she set them on her desk and made her way into the surgical area. "Hawk, Chase, what's going on?" (Reply Hawk) "Just like he said, Ang. Any ideas?" Chases' eyes smiled over his surgical mask as he continued to shave small circles around Haywoods' head. "Yeah. Depending on the scans, I'm going to probably have to expand his foramen magnum so he doesn't herniate his brainstem. Chase, why don't you pull out the drill and get Hawk used to it while I go over the imaging studies." Angeni walked over to the computer, bringing up the imaging scans. She moved to a horizontal light board and depressed a button, and a 3-D holographic image of Haywoods' head appeared. She manipulated the image with her hands, slowly going over the injury pattern. She "shaved" his head in the image to reveal the lacerations and swelling on his scalp. Under her mask, her mouth was twisted in a painfull grimace. She couldn't imagine Haywood being hurt. He reminded her of her younger brother in so many wonderful ways. Pushing painful memories to the background, she turned the skull transparent so she could examine the swelling under the skull. The brain bulged painfully at many points, including where the brain stem exited the brain. Already, a small portion of the cerebellum was playing peekaboo from the magnum. She shook her head, examining the other portions of the brain. Small bleeders appeared, as well as other contused areas that made her cringe. Angeni turned back to Chase and Hawkeye, a grim look in her eyes. "We have our work cut out for us, gentlemen. Does anyone have any questions?" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Deck 8, Personal Quarters - CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof -1918) Lo'ren eventually was able to stop rambling about the Occupation, it felt good to just talk to someone who knew those times. Most of the people in the Fleet who were in positions to help and counsel were simply younger than she was and it was strange to talk to them at times. She liked Ana and so many of the others who had tried to help her in the past. But the experience of such raw brutality that was - for all practical purposes - sanctioned by the ruling body of the time, Lo'ren hadn't been able, or willing to divulge to someone half her age. After exhausting the well of the moment regarding that harrowing experience Lo'ren felt the calm in the room. She locked eyes with the mind-healer, and part of her was keenly aware - almost frightened of the power emanating from him. ~A healthy amount of fear isn't a bad thing, Little Bird.~ "I guess I've been holding much of this to myself," Lo'ren picked at her pant leg as she spoke, "and one of the most painful things about it right now is that my father's immunity could only carry us both so far. I was protected from outright beatings - at least at first but he couldn't stop the rest. And neither of us had a chance to talk about it, it's buried and it can never be aired out." (reply Riven) Her lip quivered again, she remembered the times he held her - so much more tenderly than one would expect of a Vulcan, even a Vulcan living among Bajorans. She spoke a whisper, "I miss him. I didn't go home for at least ten years, but we had letters back and forth always. He was always there, and now..." Lo'ren didn't know how much more she could take as she melted into sobs again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Deck 8, Personal Quarters - Dr. Riven Mias -1923) The woman locked eyes with him after a moment he could feel the growing sense of understanding in her as his talents reshaped the emotional content of the room. This was but the beginning of the preparations he would have used leading up to a mind healing session and the most palpable. Mind healing itself using his telepathic abilities was more subtle and would seem far tamer to another telepath such as herself. "I guess I've been holding much of this to myself," She toyed with the leg of her pants as she spoke, "and one of the most painful things about it right now is that my father's immunity could only carry us both so far. I was, her protected from outright beatings - at least at first but he couldn't stop the rest. And neither of us had a chance to talk about it, it's buried and it can never be aired out." "Unfortunately true." He said sincerely. "Between your father and yourself. I grieve with you that your father has passed on but you know he would never have wished for you to suffer. As much as he protected you in life he could not protect himself from death, it is the culmination of the way of all things that are and the beginning of what is to come. You will miss him, that cannot nor should it be evaded but in time the happy memories you have had with him will be remembered while the pain will diminish." Her lips hook for an instant as she began remembering some of the good times they had shared, Riven withdrew from those, allowing her to savor them. "I miss him. I didn't go home for at least ten years, but we had letters back and forth always. He was always there, and now..." She melted into tears again, allowing the grief free rein as he sat back smiling gently, there were times to talk and times to be silent, he knew the value of the latter. When she wished to speak again he would be ready. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 8, Personal Quarters - CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof -1926) Lo'ren felt washed clean, her emotions were sometimes her best asset, and sometimes her worst enemy. At this moment, it was good to let them out - she was beginning to realise how much they'd been eating at her. Not only the ones revolving around Captain Sash, but those surrounding her absence from home, missing both her parents' funerals, even when it wasn't her own fault that she was unable to be there, and - of course the mac daddy of the bunch- the terror of her childhood years on Bajor. She looked up, almost shyly, now. "I was always taught to be strong, I guess that meant - for me - to deal with things on my own. That's not strength is it?" (reply Riven) She nodded, "I always looked at others from the Occupation, from the Civil War, especially those who died, as having worse problems than me. My problems are in many ways smaller than theirs." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 8, Personal Quarters - ACEO Ensign Eoin Mac Liam - 21:39) "I hadn't called them in five years, according to them. But it wasn't my fault. We were thrown forward in time. I tried to explain that to them when I called them. But they didn't believe me. They've convinced themselves that I'm dead. And I don't know what to do. I might not fit in with the rest of my family, but they're my family. They should stick by you through thick and thin. But all of a sudden, I'm left without them. I've tried to move on, and keep going with my duties, but it's gotten to the point where I can't do it anymore. It occupies my mind too much. What should I do?" Riven reached over with his left hand as he set down his own cup and placed it on Eoin's right shoulder. Eoin immediately felt better, like when he used to talk to his father. "Understanding is the key to dealing with situations like this Eoin, understanding the feelings of both your family and yourself." Eoin wiped the tears from his face, and looked up at Riven. He was feeling more comforted. Whatever Riven had done really worked. "You have to understand that after grief comes anger, it is a natural part of life. Your parents grieved for you when you went so long missing and with the realization that you were dead they became angry, with themselves and with the situation that ripped you from them and they have held that anger and grief for a long time now. And there is no grief quite like that of a parent that has lost a child, it is such a shock that it is often debilitating. It has become a natural part of their existence and it will take time to dissipate. The worst thing you could do is to cut off contact with them." "You have asked me what you should do and I will tell you, continue to keep in touch, write letters to them as you have always done as often as you can and keep them informed of what you are doing. Give them a chance for their grief and anger to die. It will take some time but it will die, and they will come to the realization that you have indeed returned to them. Your communications will become their lifeline again, just as it was before. At the same time it will be hard for you until that day comes but when it does your reward will be more than you can measure." He removed his hand from the Eoin's shoulder and leaned back in his chair. "You have always been very close to your family, it is a testament both to your love for them and to theirs for you that it has been this way and that love will not go unrewarded, it is too strong to be put down. The thought of losing their love, of being cut off from them has been too much for you to bear, it has robbed you of your hope but truth is life affirming, it gives hope when all hope has been lost." "And I have told you the truth Eoin, if you will heed it you will find out for yourself the truth of what I say." Eoin nodded, and felt a smile of relief spread across his face. "Thank you, Riven," he said. "What you've said makes sense, and I feel much better for it. I will make sure to write to my parents tonight. I'll also write to my brothers and sisters." (reply Riven) "I'll definitely keep in contact. And visit them on my next available shore leave. Might I come and talk to you again if I need to about this?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Deck 8, Personal Quarters - Dr Riven Mias- 21:41) The young man smiled back at Riven then, like the sun beginning to peek over the horizon and dawning into a new day. "Thank you, Riven," he said. "What you've said makes sense, and I feel much better for it. I will make sure to write to my parents tonight. I'll also write to my brothers and sisters." Riven was fairly beaming at the quick breakthrough. Truth always has a way of bringing a light into the darkness. "I am very happy to hear that, you will not regret it." "I'll definitely keep in contact. And visit them on my next available shore leave. Might I come and talk to you again if I need to about this?" "Why of course!" The Betazoid mind healer exclaimed, feigning shock. "My door is always open to you Eoin and I hope you will avail yourself to see me whenever you would like." He winked then. "As I said I love to have visitors. Stop by anytime." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate.2413.10.25 (USS Hades, Jeffries Tubes near Main Engineering - ACEO Engisn Eoin Mac Liam - 11:51) Eoin was working on yet another power junction. He'd been at it for hours already, but it took effort to keep these shield modifications up at 100%. He had a spare moment, and so, to keep the sweat out of his eyes, he took a green handkerchief out of his toolkit, and wrapped it round his forehead. And that's when his commbadge went off. =/\=Wright to Mac Liam.=/\= Laying down the handkerchief, he tapped his commbadge, picking it back up once he had opened the channel. "Mac Liam here." =/\=I've located an EPS Power relay in Junction thirty-eight-Bravo that is showing a 0.54 milligauss dissonance outside of tolerances. As this relay is responsible for shunting power to the Ventral Shield generator, I'd like for you to go and either adjust it or replace it as soon as possible.=/\= "Understood. Heading there now. Mac Liam out." By the time he had responded, the handkerchief was tied around his forehead. He tapped his commbadge once again. He grabbed his toolkit, and crawled further into the Jeffries Tubes. "Thank you Ensign, Engineering out." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Shuttlecraft Feynman, Ass CSO Bracken, 1455) The last hour had passed even slower, if that were possible. Slowly, the point of light that was the magnetar grew. Dale looked at it, eager to look at the scans that the Hades was undoubtedly running. This was right up her street, her PhD was in almost this exact area of astrophysics, and now she had a chance to observe a star of this type first-hand, rather than having to use the hard to obtain data that had formed her thesis. “Five minutes sir” The pilot called back to her, “Best get into position, this is going be an interesting couple of minutes.” Dale smiled. She had grown to like the Ensign who had transported them here, little inexperienced perhaps, but a fair pilot. She moved forward to the cockpit and clapped the man on the shoulder. “Thank you ensign, nice flying.” Dale turned away and moved to the centre of the shuttle, “Aimee, come here sweetheart.” Dale knelt down in front of her daughter. She had been dreading this bit, hoping beyond hope that the shuttle would dock. “Aimee, in a minute we’re going to...” She stumbled, how to explain this to a 3 year old. “In a minute something odd is going to happen, I want you to be brave, there’s nothing to worry about. Don’t be scared, Mommy’s here.” Aimee nodded quietly and held her mother’s hand. “Don’t be scared.” She said, perhaps repeating what Dale had said to her.” Dale stood up, still holding Aimee’s hand, noticing that the proximity alarm was telling the pilot that they were nearly at the waypoint. “Ready when you are Ensign. Drop out of warp and move us into position.” “Aye sir. Coming out of warp in 3...2...1. Switching to 3 quarter impulse and altering course. ETA sixty seconds. Hailing the Hades now. Good luck Sir.” The pilot turned away tapping the same console that he had before. “Hades this is the Feynman, time to rendez-vous 30 seconds, we’re ready when you are Sir.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Transporter room 1, Ass CSO Bracken, 1500) Dale looked around her after the usual discomfort of transporting, something that she always disliked. She looked down, expecting to see a terrified girl, but found herself looking down on her daughters beaming face. “Fun” she said quietly. Dale sighed, she probably should have expected something like this, Aimee had inherited her grandmother’s and indeed her own sense of adventure. She held out her hand and stepped off the platform to the waiting chief. “Lt.jg Bracken,” she motioned to her daughter. “My daughter Aimee.” “Welcome aboard Sir. One moment Sir, I need to inform the bridge that you’re safely aboard.” Dale nodded as the chief returned to the console. “Bridge this is transporter room 1, We’re good down here sirs, transport complete.” (Reply Bridge IYW) The chief returned, Captain’s up on the bridge Sir. You’ll be wanting to report in straight away. You’re daughter can be dropped off in the schoolroom on the way. Welcome again.” Dale nodded, “Thank you chief. It’s good to be back in the fleet.” ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Bridge, ACOPS Lt. David Adams, 1501) =^= Hades this is the Feynman, time to rendez-vous 30 seconds, we’re ready when you are Sir.=^= "Understood Feynman." David said, looking down at his readout which was showing the shuttle closing to transporter range and the estimated time which was right on the money. He tapped the comm. "Transporter room they are coming within range, I'm sending you the coordinates now." =^= Acknowledged. Coordinates received.=^= There was a pause. =^= Getting a transporter lock now. Ready to engage on your order.=^= David nodded as the countdown ended, they were within range. He switched to simultaneous communications with both the shuttle and transporter room 1. "Feynman initiating transport. Transporter room 1 you have an all clear, bring them aboard." =^= Energizing.=^= The comm closed for a moment as the Feynman seemed to hang in space, its pilot keeping the craft stable till the transport was complete in order to better facilitate what was still a slightly hazardous procedure. =^= Bridge this is transporter room 1, We’re good down here sirs, transport complete. =^= He let out the breath he had been holding. "Very good work Chief, send the new crewmen to the bridge, the Captain is waiting.' Turning in his seat to Straton he passed on the good news. "Passengers of the shuttle are aboard sir, on their way to the bridge now." (Reply: Eva iyw) That done he started a diagnostic on the transporter systems to make sure no glitches were appearing which could be caused by electromagnetic flux or radiation from the Magnetar and settled back in the chair, all readings were within normal parameters. Nodding he began downloading the results on a PADD for the captain to go over later. ~Reports, reports.~ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Bridge, Ass CSO Bracken, 1505) Dale stepped off the turbolift and out onto the bridge. Her first posting had been to the USS Dennison, which had been a derivative of this class. All the details were almost identical, memories came back to her in a rush as she looked across at the various stations, saving the last glance for the main and ancillary science stations. She spotted the Captain in the Command chair, and wasting no time walked toward her; “Lieutenant jg Bracken reporting for duty sir.” She handed over the PADD. “My transfer orders from Admiral Jopek Sir.” ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Bridge, CO Captain Eva Straton, 15: 06) "Passengers of the shuttle are aboard sir, on their way to the bridge now," Lt. Adams reported. "Very good," Eva said, "Take us back to our previous orbit." Eva sat back and waited, watching the view screen as the Hades turned back in toward the magnetar once more returning to their previous orbit to continue their investigation. A few moments later the turbo-lift doors opened and a woman wearing science blue stepped out and moved over to stand in front of Eva. “Lieutenant jg Bracken reporting for duty sir.” She said, handing over a PADD. “My transfer orders from Admiral Jopek Sir.” Eva took the PADD from Lt. Bracken and quickly looked over the orders. She nodded as she confirmed the command codes contained on the PADD. ~Good we could use another science officer.~ "Welcome aboard Lieutenant," Eva said, looking up at the Lt., "As you may have gathered we are currently investigating this magnetar. When you've gotten settled in your quarters, report to Lt Haynes our First Officer and acting Chief Science Officer and he will bring you up to speed on our research." Eva downloaded the Lt.'s orders into the ships computer and then handed the PADD back to the Lt. Eva then nodded to the Lt.indicating that she was dismissed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Bridge, Ass CSO Dale Bracken, 15: 07) "Welcome aboard Lieutenant," Eva said, looking up at the Lt., "As you may have gathered we are currently investigating this magnetar. When you've gotten settled in your quarters, report to Lt Haynes our First Officer and acting Chief Science Officer and he will bring you up to speed on our research." Eva downloaded the Lt.'s orders into the ships computer and then handed the PADD back to the Lt. Eva then nodded to the Lt. indicating that she was dismissed. Dale nodded and spoke a brief “Yes Sir” in reply, stepping away from the Captain as she did so. A few moments later she was back in the turbolift headed toward her quarters, in truth it wouldn’t take much time to get herself settled into her quarters, She tended to travel light, most of the stuff in the cases was Aimee’s stuff, and could wait until the end of shift to be unpacked. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Bridge, Ass CSO Dale Bracken, 15: 15) She stepped off the turbolift once more, returning to the bridge and back to duty for the first time in what seemed a lifetime. It had been a long five years. She saw Lt Hayes at the Main Science station, and turned almost mid-stride to report to him, handing the PADD over when she reached him. “Lieutenant jg Bracken reporting sir. I’m your new Ass CSO.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Target Range - CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 1530) Lo'ren paced in front of the ragtag group. They were all members of the security force - and each one of them was in her bad books. Top of the list was Ensign James Baranovichi, who was still under guard - those two stood to the side where she'd ordered them to stay. "Aside from T'Sol, Travers and Conway, you are all here because you have shown poor or negligent performance levels in all areas of Security." She spoke very crisply, her voice carrying to the far walls and sticking there like a knife. "I have called you all here to take a baseline target practice test. From there you will be reporting to me in Holodeck 2 for a physical endurance test. From those results I will be deciding on disciplinary or correctional actions that will be taken." She scanned the crowd, her green eyes icy cold. She saw James wince, his dark eyes casting down to the floor. He knew that he was already under that action and the severity of the situation. "At the very least, you will be required to log three entire shifts per week on the firing range until you are at my standards.- I will not stand for lousy aim in my security force." Her voice was quiet, but no one could mistake the venom and disapproval present there. "T'Sol will be administering the baseline target tests, I will be waiting for you in Holodeck 2 once you have completed that. Lo'ren stalked out of the room, leaving the Vulcan to explain the rest. Travers and Conway would escort Baranovichi to her after his baseline. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Target Range - SO, Ensign T'Sol - 1532) The temperature in the Target range was cooler than she preferred, but T'Sol was certain that a good deal of the chill was a psychological reaction to the Security Chief's ice cold tone of voice and demeanor. She stood off to one side of the small half-squad of security officers that had allowed their ratings to drop during the time that Lieutenant Trinin had been suffering from PTSD. Travers and Conway, the ever present companions to Baranovichi these days were, like her, simply bystanders for the most part in the remedial training that the others were about to undergo. "Aside from T'Sol, Travers and Conway, you are all here because you have shown poor or negligent performance levels in all areas of Security." She spoke very crisply, her voice carried easily to the far walls. "I have called you all here to take a baseline target practice test. From there you will reporting to me in Holodeck 2 for a physical endurance test. From those results I will be deciding on disciplinary or correctional actions that will be taken." Baranovichi the worst offender visibly flinched at the announcement. His lack of discipline and his failure to follow procedure had caused his career and the life of a fellow officer to hang in the balance. His future was uncertain because if Haywood Parker did not recover from his head injuries, then James Baranovichi would find himself on trial for contributing to his death through negligence. "At the very least, you will be required to log three entire shifts per week on the firing range until you are at my standards.- I will not stand for lousy aim in my security force." Her voice was quiet, but no one could mistake the venom and disapproval present there. "T'Sol will be administering the baseline target tests, I will be waiting for you in Holodeck 2 once you have completed that." T'Vof concluded prior to stalking out of the range compartment headed for Holodeck Two. Once the Security Chief had departed T'Sol stepped forward, assuming the lead position and turned to address those assembled. "We will be conducting a baseline examination that will begin with setting three." She said clearly and noted that those present for the exam sighed and allowed their shoulders to slump. Setting three was a difficult setting that involved a variety of target types as well as movement and target acquisition and identification skills. Every Security officer aboard the Hades should be able to breeze through the setting, however, T'Sol's research had indicated that this setting was the one that all of the participants had performed the worst. Therefore, their failure to achieve a satisfactory rating would mean additional training which would result in the betterment of the security forces aboard the Hades as a whole. "We will begin with Ensign Narth." She began, then pointed to a hand phaser rack. "We will conduct this exam with first a hand phaser and then with a Phaser rifle. Recover your weapon Ensign and move to the firing line." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Holodeck 2 - CTAC/SEC Ensign Lo'ren T'Vof - 1555) Lo'ren stood in the middle of the temperate Rainforest situated on the Northwest Coast of the American Continent of Earth. She was standing at the base of what locals called the Grouse Grind. It was a great test of physical fitness and endurance. At her feet were laid out full BDU gear and deactivated Mark III Phaser Rifles. They were part of the program she designed and would be thankfully wisked away when the program was shut down- the only downfall was that she couldn't use cleaning them as a disciplinary method. She was already fully suited up in BDU gear, minus the helmet. Her rifle was leaning against her hip, butt up. The first to walk through the door was Cadiz Narth. Lo'ren simply pointed at the BDU. Cadiz ran at the equipment and was fully geared up. [Cadiz - geartime 45 seconds.] the computer chimed. ~Not bad, under a minute.~ She pointed at the rifles and he hefted one over a shoulder, getting it ready for firing. Lo'ren shook her head, indicating that he was to hold it across his chest."It's a dead gun, don't bother firing. Up the grind, Narth." Lo'ren shoved a thumb at the wood and gravel staircase and she saw his knees buckle slightly before he came to. He moved then but Lo'ren didn't expect him back for at least two hours. If she was lucky she'd be out of this deck by dinner time. She'd catch the stragglers in her own run up the grind - fully suited and carrying the same dead weight they were. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate.2413.10.26 (USS Hades, Bridge, CO Captain Eva Straton, 07:37) Eva was reading over the reports from the over night shift when alarms sounded suddenly around the Bridge and the ships rocked. "Report," Eva snapped, dropping the PADD she had been reading. "Aberrant pulse from the magnetar," science reported, "we caught just the fringe of it." "Move us to a safe distance," Eva ordered, "and get a full damage report. I also want all sensor logs gone over leading up to that pulse to see if we can see what caused it." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Eoin Mac Liam - 07:38) Eoin was just coming into Main Engineering, ready for another shift. Luckily for him, he'd be the one monitoring the systems today, and not crawling through Jeffries Tubes. He sat down, taking a sip of his tea. Then, the ship rocked. If Eoin hadn't grabbed hold of his console quickly, he would have been thrown to the floor. He straightened himself out, and said, "Computer, what was that?" [Aberrant pulse--] the computer became garbled, and turned to static. About ten seconds later, it came back in: [--once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more.] More of the computer's voice was garbled, before it cut back in: --[to a Rutland tree. Let blood, blood, blood be your motto. Slit their gizzards. Now, I'm afraid there's going to have to be a certain amount of -- violence. But at least we know it's all in a good cause, don't we?] Eoin at this point cut the computer's audio. ~Now that was surreal, if ever I heard anything,~ he thought to himself. But he knew what it meant. The "aberrant pulse" that the computer spoke of must have come from the magnetar. And as everyone knew, magnets and computers don't mix. Eoin decided it wouldn't be wise to try communications, nor the turbolifts. He caught Arysha rushing past. "Arysha, I need you to relay a message to the bridge. Tell them that the computer interchanges in the Engineering section have been magnetised. Advise the bridge that we have already started to make repairs, but it will take several hours." (reply Tethlin) Eoin looked around, and saw a crewman moving toward the warp core. "Find Lt. Wright. Tell her that I'm assembling a team to assess the damage to the computers, and to fix the problem." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- end compile
